UNDERWATER SERIES

The works included in my "Underwater Series" present landscapes found beneath the water's surface in swimming pools to explore themes of limits and tension. As a fluid in space, the water within the architecture relates to ideas of freedom and pleasure, while also being contained by the boundaries of the pool.

By photographing these contrasting components—water and walls—my aim is to portray visually attractive, but nonetheless eerie, atmospheres. Under the surface, walls, ladders, numbers and lines lose their sense of usefulness to attain a symbolic quality. Swimmers are presented as anonymous simple beings, insect like, moving across vast liquid masses.
