ON THE VERGE
My work critically explores the complex relationship between human beings and the natural environment, with the challenges of climate change central to that dynamic.
In recent years, my focus has shifted to the American West, inspiring several series, including On the Verge. This body of work features photographs taken around Lake Powell, a rapidly shrinking water reservoir due to climate change, and Glen Canyon Dam, which plays a pivotal role in distributing Colorado River water to millions of people across the West.
At first glance, the landscapes appear idyllic, evoking the grandeur of 18th-century English landscape paintings. However, closer inspection reveals that not everything is utopian. A wind indicator, a boat marina, a water pump, and the dam itself interrupt the natural beauty, underscoring the pervasive human imprint. These details serve as poignant reminders of humanity’s profound and often disruptive influence on the environment.
